Effective Communication
Do you remember the saying do unto others as you would want done to you? Well, it’s time to “start unlearning the “golden rule” “,(Bovee & Thill, 2010, Chapter 1). To do so there are skills that can be developed to benefit outcomes in a professional atmosphere. Building a strong line of communication without diversity can be accomplished with effective communication skills. There are three skills that can help accomplish the communication goals. These three skills are adopting an audience-center approach, improving intercultural sensitivity, and using technology effectively. Understanding your audience can set you on the path to honing skills in the business place.
Appeasing an audience can be hard to accomplish as well, but can be a much simpler task with adopting an audience-centered approach. Sending a message that has significance to the reader. Also, deliver the message with concern and respect. Learning to be sensitive to the receivers preferences can further assist in successful communication. There are all kinds of walks of life that have different views. Recognizing the differences, but not making judgments upon is a mastered skill set that is learned when taking the appropriate steps in becoming interculturally sensitive to the person on the receiving end. This approach can aid in intercultural sensitivity by understanding the needs of the receiver. (Bovee & Thill, 2010, Chapter 1).
By understanding the needs of others makes improving intercultural sensitivity an easier approach. Always be looking for signs that the listener is understanding and comfortable with the message being relayed. Look past the differences that make a person who they are and being open are key steps in improving the skills at hand. Breaking from a comfort zone and recognizing the cultural differences will further a connection with a multitude of business connections. Making the person on the other end of the communication feel validated and valued the line of communication grows stronger. The strength of communication can also be increased by how you send a message. In delivering messages and developing an understanding can be maximized by using the latest technology.
Using technology effectively means to know all the current resources to take advantage of the up to date tools. Being flexible in the way the receiver can obtain communication from the sender will bring a greater advantage. Having the all the newest technology can not only help in the workplace by giving an effective message but as a time-saving tool as well. Having the latest technology can be a powerful communication tool between co-workers in and around the office. Being up to date on the new technology can put one ahead of the game because “ The tools of business communication evolve with every new generation of digital technology”, (Bovee & Thill, 2010, Chapter 1). These skills along with many others can help improve the communication process between the sender and receiver. It will also help hone the skills of the seeker who is learning to become the effective communicator.
